Chng Kah Thye moved to Singapore from Hainan, China in the 1920s. Back in the days, skills and experiences were acquired through apprenticeship. In 1951 he received his registration with the Singapore Dental Board.
Mr Chng set up a dental clinic at Yio Chu Kang Road in the early 1950s, catering to the needs of the community.
Dr Chng Joo Lam completed training at NUS School of Dentistry in 1969.
In 1970, Dr Chng set up Chng Dental Surgery at Toa Payoh Lorong 4. In the mid 1970s, he moved to the current location at Balestier Road. His brother Mr Chong Joon Seng has been assisting him in laboratory work (crowns and dentures) since the late 1970s.
Dr Chng Ren Hao graduated from the University of Adelaide, School of Dentistry in 2012. After completing attachments in South Australia, he decided to return to Singapore to assist the elder Dr Chng in his workload, especially aspects of clinic operations and management.
Both father and son work together at Chng Dental Surgery as a team, combining decades of experience with the latest advances in dentistry.
In recent years, Dr Chng Joo Lam is at the clinic on a part-time basis while Dr Chng Ren Hao takes on the role as the principal dental practitioner at the clinic.
